Dal Makhani
Dal Makhani is a rich and creamy dish made from black urad dal and kidney beans, slow-cooked with a blend of spices, butter, and cream. This North Indian favorite is perfect with naan or rice.
Ingredients
- 1 cup whole black urad dal (black lentils)
- 1/4 cup red kidney beans (rajma)
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, pureed
- 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1-2 green chilies, chopped
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- Salt to taste
- 1/2 cup fresh cream
- 2 tablespoons fresh coriander leaves, chopped
- Water as needed
How to Make Dal Makhani
Soak black urad dal and rajma overnight. Pressure cook them with salt. Sauté cumin, onions, ginger-garlic, green chilies, and tomato puree. Add spices and cooked dal. Simmer and finish with cream. Serve hot with naan or rice.
